Why does the triadic bottom line matter?

American businesses are judged by the bottom line on the balance sheet of income and expenses. However, that line is only a snapshot of the past, not the truest predictor of future success. There are actually three distinct and interrelated indicators of success. According to Wikipedia, the triple bottom line is an accounting framework with three parts: social, environmental, and economic.
